These lovely cast aluminum Herons can be purchased from Friends of the ARK for $100, by sponsors, also willing to pay an artist $200 to decorate/paint them. The copyright for the art belongs to the artist and the Heron is temporarily owned by the sponsor who will, in November, donate it to the Great Heron Release Auction.
That auction will benefit the ARK in Port Aransas. There have been two other such auctions with cast aluminum turtles as the "canvas." The turtles have averaged over $1000 in price in the auctions and we hope the Herons will also benefit the ARK is such a way.

These aluminum statues are highly textured. Artists might use the texturing to their advantage or may wish to smooth out the feathers for the design. It is suggested that "Bondo" be used to do that. Bondo is a product used to fill dents in cars and other metal surfaces. It would work well on the aluminum birds.
Should you be chosen by a sponsor to create, let me know and I will get a Heron to you. Specify which pose you want and we can get together on a delivery place and date.
There will be "Hatchings" (parties to show off the Herons) throughout the spring and summer. The Herons that are complete in the early spring will have the most exposure to the public. They will be on display in galleries and in businesses and hopefully in the written and television media.
