Turtle Trail 2008 got off to a wonderful start with the first of 6 parties celebrating the art to be auctioned in November to benefit the ARK of Port Aransas. The Animal Rehabilitation Keep or ARK cares and cures injured shore birds and turtles then returns them to the wild.
The first “Hatching” was hosted by the Aransas Pass Yacht Club and held March 28th at Mathews Gallery and Studio in Aransas Pass. Honored artists and sponsors were: Sophie Binder artist for Kory Miller of St. Louis, Beth Fedigan artist for Whitaker Insurance of San Antonio, Christi Mathews artist for the Aransas Pass Yacht Club, Mary Rush artist for the Wharf Restaurant in Port Aransas and Kathy Sayre artist for Port A Gallery in Port Aransas. A total of 35 more aluminum turtles are in the hands of artists and will be introduced at “Hatchings” when they are completed.
The next event will be held at Gulf Shores Condominiums on Hwy 361 near Port Aransas on May 23rd, which is also World Turtle Day. There is expected to be at least 8 new works of art for this “Hatching.” The public is invited to attend any and all free events for Turtle Trail 2008.
